If you are looking for a Dvd rack that would give your room an authentic look, then you should go for the wooden Dvd rack. This type matches practically any living room style; all you have to do is choose the right create and color. But if you are looking for a personalized Dvd rack design, there is no good thing to do than to originate your own wooden Dvd rack. Creating your own wooden Dvd rack is also economy than buying one.

Important materials in building a Dvd rack are plywood, wood glue, saw, nails, hammer, filing paper, pencil and measuring tape. You can use recycled plywood or plywood scraps, just make sure that the wood layers are not peeling off. The plywood must have a thickness of at least 1/4 inch. If it is any thinner, the layers of your rack would not have the capacity to hold the Dvds in place and might unquestionably fall off or break away, damaging your Dvds all the more.

The size of the plywood differs, depending on how big and how tall you want your Dvd rack to be. However, you must make sure that the width of your rack has a proper size of 6 inches. Cds and Dvds are 4 3/4 inches in diameter, and their cases are colse to 6 inches in width. This way, you can place the Dvd cases vertically without it being too deep into the rack, nor will it be protruding out of the rack that it might fall off. The proper height of each layer should be at least eight inches because the large Dvd case is 7 1/2 inches tall.

You would need to use the measuring tape to have an exact portion of plywood. Use the pencil to mark the part that you need to cut. Draw a line that you could see even while you are sawing through the plywood so that you would have a piece of plywood that has the exact measure.

Once you have appropriately cut the plywood according to your desired size, you can start putting them together by gluing one piece of plywood to another. You can hammer nails into the plywood once the wood glue has dried of. This would improve the vigor of your rack. The wood glue would also fill the gap in between the plywood to make it firm.

After connecting all the plywood with the help of wood glue and nails, you would then have a rack. But first you would have to clean the edges from splinters by the use of wood filing paper. This will help plane the edges so that no stray piece of wood or splinter would hurt anyone.

After completing this whole ensemble, you can beautify your own wooden Dvd rack by adding varnish or painting it according to your likes. Varnish would give it a plane finish. If you want to paint it, dark colors like blue, black or brown are recommended to give your Dvd rack a nice look.
